Theoretical–Practical Guide to Strengthening Leadership

Collective leadership is a viable path to addressing the systemic challenges Colombia faces: limited access to opportunities, distrust, polarization, misinformation, low participation, and violence against those who lead. Since 2023, Fundación Corona, Origen Red de Liderazgo, the Alberto Lleras Camargo School of Government at Universidad de los Andes, GOYN Bogotá, and the Consortium for Community Development have worked in a Collective Leadership Learning Community to understand—both from theory and practice—how to move from individual leadership to processes where multiple people, sectors, and territories share common purposes and collective decision‑making.
This guide brings together those learnings and translates them into a practical roadmap across four sections—recognizing existing leadership, understanding why collective leadership matters, choosing how to organize, and preparing for challenges—with conceptual capsules, reflection journals, and activities that can be applied in the field. It is an invitation to strengthen citizen initiatives, teams, and organizations that want to build a more inclusive, co‑responsible, and resilient “we,” and to use the guide as a starting point for new conversations and collective actions.
Do you want to strengthen collective leadership processes in your territory, organization, or community?
